In 1879, yet another dramatic event occurred and the fire destroyed the church in Bieździedza for the third time. This time it happened during the renovation of the wooden ridge turret. The fire burned down the altars, paintings, archives, gallery, pulpit, tapestries and gongalons. The temperature was so high that the baptismal font made of red bronze melted.

The village with such a beautiful name like Bieździedza must be unique. It is really the case and shown by the history of this settlement. Documents of Benedictine abbots from Tyniec (near Cracow) mention it as early as the 12th century. It is one of the oldest villages in the Podkarpacie Foothills. The place where the historic church is now located, has been used for centuries for religious practices. A long time ago, the dead were buried in this place surrounded by old oak trees. It cannot be excluded that such a circle could have had some meaning in the pre-Christian times and with the new religious order it was used for a new ritual. The parish was erected in 1326 and six years earlier a small church was founded there by the knighthood family of Helwig. The church lasted around 50 years and was destroyed by fire. A similar fate befell its successor around 1400. The owners of the estate did not give up and in the years 1402-1409 founded the construction of a new church, which was consecrated in 1453. In subsequent centuries, this land belonged to different owners.

Many of the above-mentioned objects could not be recovered or rebuilt. Fortunately, the walls were complete enough to rebuild the church with a significant help of the parishioners. During this time, masses were held in the nearby cemetery.

This seven centuries old church is delighting pilgrims from all over the world. The Gothic-style structure made of stone is one of the best known monuments in the Podkarpacie region.

The present-day interior decorations, which can be admired, date from 1880 and are maintained in the neo-Gothic style. Visitors should pay attention to the painting “the Descent from the Cross” from 1916 and the chapel of the Romer family with interesting epitaphs. Each of the plates made of stone refers to a different member of this family. Stations of the Cross from the 19th century as well as chandeliers and paintings have been preserved until today.
