RADZIKOWO - St John the Baptist Church
Church
IN RADZIKOWO
The building was erected in 1712, however the continuity of the parish reaches much further back in time. Archaeologists discovered two hillforts on the territory of Stare Radzikowo. The first one was to have been created in the 12th century, the other, much older, even between the 6th and the 7th century. The first church was built here in 1060. Due to, among other, warfare (in the 18th century e.g. the Swedish Deluge) churches were destroyed and rebuilt. The current building, however, lasted over 300 years, which makes it an exceptional witness to history.
The interior inspires reflexion and creates an ideal mood for contemplation. The beautiful main altar dates back to the 18th century, just like the side altars. The pulpit, the baptismal font and Baroque crosses, which were renovated in the 20th century, kept their character. The ornaments of the pulpit as well as the polychromy are dominated by vegetal patterns and geometric ornaments. The building is topped with a flat, wooden ceiling.
