ORTHODOX CHURCH
IN PASYNKI
The charming Orthodox church in Pasynki is an example of this style. It was built in 1891, when the village belonged to private landowners. During the census, which was carried out 30 years later, most of its inhabitants declared Belarusian identity and Eastern Orthodox religion.
The church stands out from far away due to its blue colour, silver tin roofs and a bulbous dome surmounting the octagonal roof at the end of the nave. Unlike many other sacred monuments in Poland, not only did the church last until our times in good condition, but it was lucky enough to receive generous and wise support. It was renovated several times in the previous century and it was entered in the register of monuments in 1993.
The interior of the church is richly decorated with polychromy executed in the 90s of the 20th century. The above mentioned octagonal roof from the inside constitutes a vault richly decorated in its entirety. A careful eye will recognize the representations of the most important scenes from the New Testament and of the Saints.
We recommend visiting the church during services considering beautiful music and rich setting. This is one of those places, where during holidays important for the Eastern Orthodox Church, many faithful show up.
Video recordings found on the Internet will allow you to see the inside of the church, but it is like looking through the keyhole inside a museum or a philharmonic hall instead of witnessing such an event yourself.
Pasynki is located near Bielsk Podlaski and Hajnówka. In the immediate vicinity, you can also find the town of Czyże boasting another beautiful Orthodox church: the Orthodox Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God. In addition, we recommend those who will visit this place, to find some time to go to the Białowieża Forest. The above mentioned village of Hajnówka is a kind of gateway to this natural treasure.
