IN PORĘBY DYMARSKIE
Today, Poręby Dymarskie is one of the biggest villages in the district, areawise, however its church is relatively recent, if we look from the perspective of other, much older surrounding churches. The name of the village reflects the occupation of local people. Craftsmen who settled down here were connected with iron mining and processing: miners, metallurgists and smiths. The closest parish was located in Cmolas, a few kilometres away. To satisfy the need of the faithful, a chapel was organised in the house of Ms Maria Czachor, in Poręba. The Holy Mass was celebrated by a priest who also served as a catechist at the local school. The villagers, however, were thinking of their own church.
This is when the idea to move a nearby, abandoned church to Poręby Dymarskie, appeared. There was a 17th century parish church that had not been used since 1960’s. The disassembly works started in 1979. The beams were transferred one after another not to damage the structure. A polychromy from the second half of the 17th century was discovered during the works, which will be renovated by the end of the 20th century. What does it look like today?
The wooden church has a shingle roof. The structure is composed of a nave, a rectangular and slightly narrower presbytery with a semi-hexagonal termination from the east. Next to it, there is a sacristy, whereas on the western side of the nave, a square-plan tower was added. The building is compact and slender, thus seems to be light. The hexagonal tower located between the nave and the presbytery adds charm. It performs the function of a ridge turret.
When admiring the wooden structure, it is also worth looking inside and not only on the interior decoration. There are flat ceilings with rounded coves in the presbytery and upper, side beams are extended along the nave /zaskrzynienie/. The rood beam is decorated with a Baroque crucifix and one cannot overlook the already mentioned 17th century polychromy on the walls of the presbytery and partially on the walls of the nave.
Old church furnishings have been preserved until today, namely the main altar, two side altars next to the rood beam date from the 17th and the 18th century. An old baptismal font and portals with lintels having the ogee shape constitute additional treasures.
