IN PRZYDONICA
The parish in Przydonica was founded around 1358 thanks to the support of the Gerałt and Gryfit families. At the end of the 16th century the priests from Podole took over the administration of the parish. In 1925 the Bishop of Tarnów Leon Wałęga re-established the parish in Przydonica.
The current church of Our Lady of the Rosary was built in 1527 and consecrated around 1580. It was made of larch wood in log construction. It is a late-Gothic one-nave building with a three doors’ chancel. The gable roof over the nave and the chancel was covered with shingles. In the 18th century, a baroque tower with a pole structure was added to the church from the west.
Originally, the parish was dedicated to St. Catherine, the current Roman Catholic parish is of Our Lady of the Rosary. The main altar was made in the Rococo style, i.e. from the second half of the 18th century. In the altar’s chancel, there is a 17th-century painting of the Virgin Mary with the Child, painted on canvas, called the “Mother of Consolation” – reportedly offered in December 1683 by the Polish king Jan III Sobieski as a thanksgiving for the victorious battle of Vienna.
The church has also an interesting and unique late 16th century polychrome covering the walls of the chancel. It consists of cycles depicting the Passion of the Lord, the legend of Saint Stanisław the Bishop and the figures of saints. The two side altars in the form of painted triptychs are of an exceptional value. In the main field of each of them there is an image of the Mother of God with the Child. Among the monuments that make up the temple’s equipment, the baptismal font from the 19th century, the late-Gothic crucifix from the first half of the 16th century and the stone Gothic baptismal font from the same period should also attract attention.
On April 29, 1960, the church was entered into the register of monuments of the Malopolska Province.
