WOSKOWICE MAŁE - Church of St. Lawrence
CHURCH
IN WOSKOWICE MAŁE
The church in Woskowice Małe was built in 1711 as an Evangelical place of worship. After some years, it fell into the hands of the Catholics and, today, continues to be the place of their spiritual contemplation. There are many interesting details deserving our attention. One of them is the bell hanging in the tower. According to the inscription, it dates from 1593 and was cast by Stefan Goetz. The workshop of the family having this surname cast bells in Wrocław and in the 16th century it was used by many parishes and other important places. A bell cast by the Goetz family was, among others, the pride of Głogów in the 18th century, where it hung in the city hall.
In the church of St. Lawrence, we will find a beautiful, simple organ. The polychrome paintings were executed at the beginning of the 18th century. It is characterized by rich patterns in the shape of acanthus twigs, curtains and festoons. In the nave, we will find a polychrome painting in the Neo-Baroque style. It depicts ornamental and floral strips and was executed by the painter Beihaf from Rychtal at the end of the 19th century.
The visitors should also pay attention to the Baroque altar from the 18th century and a beautiful, manneristic pulpit. It was executed in the 17th century and three hundred years later, in 1914, it was covered with polychromy. When enumerating the gems of this place, one cannot overlook the baptismal font from the 18th century, which represents the Late-Baroque style.
